The restoration of Chevra T’helim is well underway!  Thanks to the support of area foundations and generous benefactors, structural repairs were completed and the synagogue was saved.  Last spring, building permits were granted, and construction began in September 2007.

The stain glass windows and pews have been removed and are being restored offsite.  Workers have replaced the entrance columns and are hard at work on the interior restoring the wood paneling, pressed metal ceiling, and the balcony.  New flooring will soon be in place and updates in wiring and plumbing will soon be completed.  A temporary ramp for handicap access has been added on the north façade.

Areas are being configured for the display of artifacts, and a curator is now working on this display.

The contractors expect to complete the restoration by early January 2008.  After a special Opening Event, Friends of Chevra T’helim will welcome school tours, visitors and tourists and host cultural events.
